Health Tip: Take a Break From Parenting

(HealthDay News) — Parenting is a tough job. And to be successful at it, you may need to take a little breather from time to time.

The American Academy of Pediatrics offers these suggestions for new parents:

  • Understand that it’s normal to feel frustrated, and sometimes angry, with your child or children.
  • When you feel frustrated, put baby in a safe place, such as the crib, and take a few quiet moments to relax.
  • Calm yourself with some relaxing music, a cup of coffee, reading, meditating or making a quick phone call to a friend.
  • Ask others to help you watch baby from time to time, especially if you stay at home full-time with your little one.
