Colic is common in babies…but it doesn’t make it any easier for parents to cope. Many are now trying probiotics to try to manage the condition…and prevent the inconsolable crying that accompanies it.But, new research is mixed on whether these micro-organisms — that may help with digestion — help with colic.A team in Australia reviewed 12 different trials that included more than 18-hundred infants three months or younger…the prime age for colic. The infants were randomly assigned to receive either oral probiotics or placebo, standard medical treatment or no treatment.Half of the trials concluded probiotics reduced crying… while the other half did not. The results were also mixed when researchers compared data for breast-fed versus bottle-fed babies.
