Health Tip: Teach Kids Internet Safety

(HealthDay News) — Kids may inadvertently reveal personal information on the Internet, making them vulnerable to predators, the U.S. government’s Girlshealth.gov Web site warns.

The site suggests these precautions for children who chat or instant message:

  • Be careful when choosing your online screen name. Avoid names that are suggestive or personal.
  • Don’t chat or otherwise communicate with people you don’t know.
  • When you’re finished chatting or instant messaging, be sure to log off. Remember to change your password frequently.
  • Ignore any IM that makes you uncomfortable, and tell your parents about it.
  • Don’t give out your account passwords to anyone.
