(HealthDay News) — Peer pressure can be tough to resist for children, and making healthy food choices while hanging out with friends is no exception.
The American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says parents should:
- Create strong, healthy habits at home that will influence your child’s behavior outside home.
- While dining out as a family, teach your child how to eat mindfully and slowly, and select healthy menu choices.
- Help build your child’s self-esteem so he or she can handle scrutiny from friends. Praise your child for making good decisions, and encourage open communication about what goes on with friends.
