(HealthDay News) — Kids may crave chips and sweet treats, but parents should encourage their children to choose healthier options.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offers these suggestions:
- Keep plenty of fresh, colorful fruits and vegetables in plain sight, where kids can grab them easily.
- Stock up on dried fruits (low-sugar options) and dried chickpeas, peas and soybeans.
- Stock your pantry with applesauce, fruits and beans that can be mixed with salsa, and veggies.
- Create home-made frozen fruit bars and smoothies.
