Does having a gun in the home raise the odds of suicide and homicide under the same roof? The answer according to new research is yes.
A review of 15 different studies was just published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, comparing the odds of being a victim of a homicide and being a victim at your own hands…when there’s a gun in the house.
All but one of the 15 studies reported significantly increased odds of both with a gun at home…the risk of suicide higher than homicide.
Gun ownership is more prevalent in the United
States than in any other country with roughly 35 to 39 percent of homes having one. Firearms are blamed on roughly 31-thousand deaths here each year.
The researchers say restricting access may effectively prevent injury.
