(HealthDay News) — The normal range for a resting heart rate is between 60 and 90 beats per minute, says Harvard Medical School. An increase in the resting heart rate over time can be a sign of future heart trouble.
To lower your resting heart rate, the school suggests:
- Exercise every day.
- Practice stress-reducing techniques, such as meditation.
- Avoid tobacco products.
- Lose any extra weight.
Harvard Medical School says the best time to measure your resting heart rate is before you get out of bed in the morning. To do so, place one or two fingers on your wrist or neck, and count the number of beats in 15 seconds. Multiply that number by four.
