What’s high-tech, increasingly popular, and a potentially mortal threat to the fragile bonds of love?
Apparently the 140 characters found in a so-called Tweet.
So suggests a new survey published in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behavior and Social Networking.
The online poll focused on 600 active users of the social networking site Twitter.
The respondents were culled from the site’s 554 million adherents who collectively post about 58 million 140-character tweets a day.
3/4 of those polled were in a current relationship and all were between the ages of 18 and 67.
The survey asked Twitter users how often they posted or read tweets and how often they argued with their partner because of excessive Twitter use.
All also revealed whether they had physically or emotionally cheated with someone they met through Twitter and whether Twitter somehow caused the end of their relationship.
The result: those who were active on Twitter and engaged in Twitter-provoked arguments with their partner seemed to face a higher risk for cheating and break-ups.
The message: tweet at your own risk!
