While liposuction is still considered to be the most effective procedure that removes and re-sculpts areas of problem body fat, over the last couple of years many non-surgical liposuction alternatives have surfaced, often claiming to be faster and easier solutions to invasive surgery.
One such treatment is known as CoolSculpting. This widely recognized technique developed by Harvard scientists, is considered helpful when looking to remove isolated bulges in the abdomen, back, flanks, and medial thighs– aka, those “annoying muffin tops, love handles, and belly pooch.”
It is a “unique, FDA-cleared, patented procedure” that “uses a targeted cooling process that kills the fat cells underneath the skin, literally freezing them to the point of elimination. Only fat cells are frozen. Your healthy skin cells remain, well, healthy. No knives. No suction hoses. No needles. No scars. Once crystallized, the fat cells die and are naturally eliminated from your body.”
Unlike other treatments that can burn, shatter, or extract cells, CoolSculpting involves freezing fat cells to trigger their natural death.
This treatment is especially attractive to people not looking to lose large amounts of fat. One CoolSculpting session may remove up to 25% of unwanted body fat (while a more invasive liposuction treatment may remove up to 90%). However, unlike other more invasive procedures, CoolSculpting takes very little time– each treatment lasts one hour and can easily fit into a busy day.
According to the CoolSculpting website they believe “It’s called stubborn fat for a reason: no matter how much you eat healthy and exercise, it’s virtually impossible.” They also claim that you will see results after the first visit, and while it may take a few months to get the complete achieved look, unlike surgery, there is no recovery time.
Minimal downtime with lasting results? Sounds pretty cool.
