Moderna, Pfizer COVID vaccines activate key immune system players. There’s been lots of talk about a drop-off in antibodies months after COVID vaccination, but new research suggests the shots activate other immune system actors that could provide long-term immunity. Read more
Pope Francis undergoes colon surgery. The Vatican announced that Pope Francis underwent a planned procedure on Sunday in which surgeons removed a section of his colon that had narrowed. Experts said it’s a common condition that can cause pain and trouble eating. Read more
Just 20 states reach Biden’s July 4 vaccination goal. In May, President Biden pledged to have 70% of Americans get at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. But come Independence Day, that goal was not met by more than half of states. Read more
