Salmonella Spurs Recall of Swiss Rolls
Possible salmonella contamination has led to the recall of rolls and bread made by Flowers Foods, Inc.
The recall includes Swiss Rolls distributed across the United States and sold under the brand names Mrs. Freshley’s, Food Lion, H-E-B, Baker’s Treat, Market Square, and Great Value, and Captain John Derst’s Old Fashioned Bread distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Whey powder used in the products may be contaminated with salmonella. The whey powder has been recalled by the maker.
No illnesses has been reported in connection with the recalled rolls and bread, according to Flowers Foods.
Consumers with the recalled rolls and bread should not eat them. Throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. For more information, consumers can call Flowers Foods at 1-866-245-8921.

New VA Secretary Expected to be Confirmed in Senate Vote
It’s expected that Pentagon official Robert Wilkie will be confirmed in a Senate vote Monday as the new secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Wilkie — President Donald Trump’s third pick for the job in 18 months — says he will “shake up complacency” at VA, which is trying to cut long waits for medical care faced by millions of veterans, the Associated Press reported.
Earlier this year, Trump fired his first VA secretary, David Shulkin, due to ethics charges and resistance within the VA over the role of private care for veterans. Trump’s initial choice to replace Shulkin was White House doctor Ronny Jackson, but he withdrew after allegations of workplace misconduct.
Wilkie served as acting VA secretary after Shulkin was fired, then returned to his role as Pentagon undersecretary.
If confirmed, Wilkie would replace current acting VA secretary Peter O’Rourke, who has been in conflict with the VA inspector general, the AP reported.
