Families of Toddlers Killed in Dresser Tip-Overs to Get $50 Million From Ikea

The parents of three toddlers who died when Ikea dressers tipped over onto them will receive $50 million from the furniture retailer.

Wednesday’s announcement by lawyers for the families comes six months after Ikea announced a recall of 29 million of its dressers, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The $50 million payout — which lawyers said would be among the highest in a case involving a child’s death — will be split equally among the three families.

As part of the deal to settle the lawsuit by the three families, Ikea also agreed to give $100,000 to a Chicago nonprofit that aims to increase awareness of furniture tip-overs, and $50,000 to three children’s hospitals in communities where the toddlers lived, the Inquirer reported.
