(HealthDay News) — Listeriosis is an infection with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, commonly acquired by eating contaminated food. It’s particularly dangerous for pregnant women and their fetuses.
The University of Maryland Medical Center suggests how pregnant women can reduce their risk of listeriosis:
- Avoid contact with animals, either domestic or wild.
- Avoid eating soft cheeses.
- Don’t eat cold salad from a salad bar or deli meats.
- Make sure your food is thoroughly cooked.
