(HealthDay News) — Sneaking a bite of raw cookie dough poses a big risk, experts say. The raw eggs that are often used in cookie dough may contain bacteria that can make you sick.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offers these suggestions to make baking cookies a safe, fun activity for all:
- Never taste raw cookie dough.
- Never lick beaters, spoons or bowls that include raw cookie dough.
- Before tasting your cookies, make sure they are baked all the way through.
- When baking cookies, wash your hands before you start, after handling raw eggs and after you’ve finished.
