(HealthDay News) — Elderly people and children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of the heat. But a few precautions can help them enjoy a safe, cool summer.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests:
- Children, infants and pets should never be left in a parked car, even if the windows are open.
- Wear lightly-colored, lightweight, loosely-fitting clothing to keep cool and comfortable.
- Plan outdoor activities for the coolest times of day, such as morning or evening.
- Take a cool shower or bath.
- Always use sunscreen.
- Seek immediate medical care if there are any signs of heat-related illness.
