(HealthDay News) — Flash floods typically occur when water from very heavy rainfall builds up in low-lying areas. They can be dangerous if you’re not prepared.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service advises:
- Stay tuned to local weather stations to monitor your risk of flooding. Be alert for rising water when heavy rains approach.
- If you see water starting to rise, head immediately to higher ground.
- Stay away from areas that are flooded, and never try to drive or swim through an area of water.
- Be very cautious when traveling during flash flooding, especially at night.
