Health Tip: Signs You're Getting Too Much Iron

While iron deficiency is a big concern, absorbing too much iron — a condition known as hemochromatosis — can also pose problems.

The website lists these warning signs of hemocromatosis, one of the most common genetic conditions in the United States:

  • Feeling weak and fatigued.
  • Losing weight.
  • Arthritis, pain in the joints and pain in the abdominal area.
  • A fluttering sensation in the chest and other heart problems.
  • Missing periods or early onset of menopause.
  • Diminished sex drive and impotence.
