(HealthDay News) — Some risk factors for osteoporosis you can’t control — such as your age, heritage and family history of the brittle bones condition.
But the womenshealth.gov website says there are risk factors than you can control, including:
- Getting plenty of calcium in your diet each day.
- Getting plenty of daily vitamin D.
- Eating a healthy, balanced and nutrient-rich diet.
- Getting plenty of weight-bearing exercise.
- Avoiding smoking and drinking alcohol in moderation.
- Taking medication to reduce bone loss, if your doctor recommends it.
