Health Tip: Meditating at Bedtime

(HealthDay News) — A busy mind can keep you from a good night’s sleep. And a relaxing meditation ritual may be just what you need to wind down.

The National Sleep Foundation suggests:

  • Consider mindfulness meditation, in which you focus solely on nearby sounds and sensations.
  • Try concentration meditation, in which you focus on one thing. You can choose an object such as a candle flame while repeating a simple mantra.
  • Perform guided meditation, in which your thoughts follow the guidance of an instructor. You may be asked to focus on relaxing muscles throughout your body, or imagining a peaceful, relaxing scene.
