(HealthDay News) — Diabetes, especially when uncontrolled, can cause damage to your mouth and teeth.
The Mouthhealthy.org website says possible effects of diabetes on the teeth and mouth include:
- Dry mouth, due to decreased saliva production.
- Increased risk of cavities due to less saliva.
- Gingivitis, characterized by bleeding, inflamed gums.
- Difficulty tasting food.
- Slower healing of mouth wounds.
- Increased risk of infection.
- Among diabetic children. teeth emerging earlier than expected.
