Health Tip: Teach Kids About Smart Snacking

(HealthDay News) — Kids may be inclined to opt for junk food over fresh fruit.

That’s where parents and guardians come in, says the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Here are the academy’s suggestions for steering your children toward healthier snack options:

  • Place fresh fruit out in the open where your kids can see and reach it.
  • Store these foods in see-through containers.
  • Ask your child to create a list of his or her favorite healthy foods. Then fill the list at the grocery store.
  • Stock the pantry and refrigerator with snack-size, portable containers of peanut butter, milk, nuts or raisins.
