(HealthDay News) — Keeping a log whenever you give your child medicine can help avoid giving your child too much medication or repeating a dose. It also can provide valuable information to the child’s pediatrician in the event of a problem, including a reaction.
The American Academy of Family Physicians says the following information should be kept in a medication log:
- Your child’s name, and the name and phone number of the child’s parent or guardian.
- Contact information for the child’s pediatrician.
- Contact information for the nearest poison control center.
- The kind of medication you gave your child, as listed on the container.
- The time and dose of any medication given to the child each day. This includes any over-the-counter or prescription medications.
- Any unusual signs or symptoms in the child after the medication is given.
