The American Academy of Family Physicians advises:

  • Find a balance in the foods that you enjoy and the foods you need to eat for nutritional value.
  • Eat a wide variety of foods from all five food groups.
  • Watch your portion sizes. Remember that you want to feel comfortable, not full, when you’re finished eating.
  • When you choose an edible treat with less nutritional value, enjoy it in moderation.
