Health Tip: Caring for Pets

(HealthDay News) — If there’s an emergency and you need to evacuate your home, your pets must go too. So be prepared.

The American Red Cross recommends:

  • Find out which hotels would accept pets.
  • Prepare an emergency contact list of friends, family members and veterinarians who can help care for your pets in an emergency.
  • Practice evacuation drills with your pets, including getting their loaded carriers into your car.
  • Microchip your pets, and make sure their vaccines are up to date.
